Zhengzhou Medical University

Zhengzhou Medical University (ZZU) is a national "211 Project" key university co-built by the Henan Province and the MOE. It is originally founded in 1956 as the first comprehensive since the establishment of new China. Now the university offers 11 disciplines in 4 campuses, occupying an area of 1070 acres.

Zhengzhou Medical University is situated in the capital city of Henan Province-Zhengzhou, lying on the southern bank of the Yellow River and in the center of China. As the cradle of Chinese civilization, it is one of the Eight Great Ancient Capitals in China and the home to Kung fu, Tai chi and national flower-Peony. Here, the Buddhism, Taoism and Islam are widely accepted and the multicultural environment makes everyone feel at home. Besides, living in Zhengzhou is rather economical, the consumption level is lower than that in the metropolis like Beijing and Shanghai.

The predecessor of Medical School in Zhengzhou University is the Henan Medical University established in 1928. It began to admit international students since 1997 and it's one of the earliest medical colleges approved by the MOE to teach MBBS in English. According to the rules of MOE, the seats it can provide for international students in MBBS program is 200, the most among China universities.

The Medical School has five clinical colleges, 9 large-scale affiliated hospitals with over 12,000 hospital beds, a clinical medical key subject of open laboratory, 11 research institutes and 32 professional laboratories. The high-level anatomical labs for teaching guarantee that every eight to ten students could operate on one corpse for practice.

Clinical Medicine is the first-level key discipline in Zhengzhou Medical University and ranks 16th among China universities. The faculties in the Medical School reach 3,045, including 2 academicians, 227 professors and 372 deputy professors. Most of them have studying or working experiences abroad and some are from India, Nepal and Pakistan. Till now, the number of international students studying MBBS in Zhengzhou University has reached more than 1,000, mainly from South Asia, India, Pakistan, Nepal etc.

Zhengzhou Medical University is recognized by WHO and the graduates of MBBS program are eligible to take the Medical Licensing Examinations held by the medical councils in different countries such as MCI, PMDC, USMLE, HPCSA, SCHS etc.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The curriculum planning shall include the following three parts:

(1)  Chinese culture and natural science courses. In order to facilitate their learning and life in China and contact with patients in their medical practice, the Chinese language shall be a compulsory course during the whole undergraduate medical program in English for international students in China.

(2)  Basic medical sciences, behavioral science, humanities, social science and medical ethics, preventive medicine and clinical medicine. It is also required to pass the examinations of these courses respectively.

(3)  Internship. The institutions shall meticulously organize the reasonable arrangement of the internship. The duration of the internship is one year (at least 48 weeks).

MAIN COURSES

The main courses of the specialty are Anthroponomy, Histoembryology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Preventive Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology, and Diagnostics, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics-gynecology and Pediatrics, etc.

Note: The first semester of the 6-year clinical medicine specialty is for the basic preparatory courses, including Survey of China, Mathematics, Physics, and Fundamental Chemistry.

MBBS Degree: On completing the requirements of the teaching program and passing the graduation examinations successfully, international medical undergraduates will be granted a graduation certificate and conferred a medical degree by the host institution, if they meet the degree regulations of the host institution. The English copy of the degree will state MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). 

INTERNSHIP AND CAREER

The internship is arranged in the sixth year and students can choose to do it in China or outside China.

The 9 affiliated hospitals include 8 reputed hospitals of the highest level in China. They even attracted international students from other medical schools to do internship here. In the hospitals, there are more than 12,000 beds, 15,000 out-patients per day and first-level clinical medicine laboratories.  

Besides, the school has signed the technology exchange and cooperation agreement and personnel training program agreement with famous domestic hospitals in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xi'an, etc., and abroad medical institutes in U.S., Germany, Japan, Canada, U.K., Swede, Norwegian, Denmark, Austria, Holland, etc.

And, students have to take the final examination on Theory Test and Clinical Evaluation in Zhengzhou Medical Universitybefore graduation. Having attended the graduation ceremony, they can get the diploma.

After obtaining MBBS Degree, the graduates can apply to take the medical licensing examination in the medical council in order to get registered and practice medicine. According to the regulations in different countries, the students may need to do the degree accreditation first. A MBBS degree holder can find jobs in government as well as private hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities. Except this, one can also start his own clinic or pursue study for master's degree. The MBBS graduates of Zhengzhou Medical University who have taken the medical licensing examinations have a high passing rate.

Note: To facilitate the students in the medical licensing examinations, in the final internship year, the university will invite some professors from India, Pakistan etc to do the special tutorship which is quietly popular among students.
